Your family shoot
I am inspired by human connection (and the furry ones) and capturing the beauty that is present in your everyday life even amongst chaos.
I want my clients to feel free to be themselves and connect with each other during a session. I want you to let go of expectations of how a shoot will be and just be present.
If your after a bunch of photos sitting there awkwardly looking at the camera saying “cheese” then I am not your photographer. I defiantly aim to get some more formal shots of everyone looking during the first 10 minutes of a shoot then I let your kids run wild and free to explore and be themselves.
I will gently guide you through the session, prompting and interacting with you (when I need to) and having fun along side your kiddies.
Extended generational family photoshoots
These are often multigenerational sessions, including grandparents, their children, and their grandchildren, it’s such an honour for me to capture these larger groups together. Especially when it can be difficult getting everyone in the same spot which makes these shoots extra special.
The process of an extended family session is a little different than the typical family portrait session since there are more group shots and arranging everyone requires a bit more time.
We start with the large group portraits since that's usually the priority. Then we break down into smaller groupings of individual families, just grandkids, original family, just kids, etc and lots of candid moments in between.
These sessions take 1-1.5 hours depending on the size of the group but I work quickly and efficiently so everyone stays happy!
Please note that because these sessions are mainly done on a weekend I have limited availability. Mid week I am flexible but my weekends fill up fast. If you’re wanting them done sooner I can help you find another photographer.
How to prepare for the day.
I will begin each session by chatting and giving you a run through on what to expect. Giving your little ones a chance to get used to me before shoving a camera in their faces.
Generally we have kids full attention for the first 15 minutes so I try and get all the more formal shots done straight up.
Ill guide you and direct you (if I need to)…. but it will feel like you are just hanging out with a friend while I capture you and your family loving the shit out of each other. I want this to be a fun adventure that you go on with your kids, not a a bunch of awkward poses with fake smiles. I want my clients to be present in the session and enjoy being together hanging out and doing all the fun things your kids love. That is when the magic happens.
Grab your people and come prepared to let your kids be kids, tickle them till they give you the BEST sound in the world… their giggle. Run with them, play games with them, explore, sing songs, throw them in the air and give them piggy back rides. Squeeze your babies cheeks. Kiss them, hug them and love them.
Let go of perfection and let them be little. Dads bring some beers- this can help and get them on my side.
Don’t worry if there is a tantrum…. I have kids… I understand. We will give them a break and I will approach it differently.
Let go of any expectations and and enjoy every moment. There is no pressure to be perfect, all you have to do Is trust me
